I simply love books. That old funky smell from used bookshops is an elixir for me and not, as I understand for some, a complete turn-off. Part of my business is book design, and I love it when clients ask for photographs from their parties to be collated into a bespoke designed book. I literally sit at my computer for hours using InDesign putting all the pieces of the photographic puzzle together into a cohesive design. All my designs are created from scratch, I don’t use templates, as they don’t function for things like this. After the book has been signed off by the client I look for the best digital book printers to complete the book. Of course the best part is when the final product arrives like this one just did! Clients happy, I’m happy! On to the next one – a wedding album design for local photographer Leah Photography.
Joe and the Genie children’s book
I have recently finished the design for a children’s author entitled ‘Joe and the Genie‘. My client explained the concept of turning the story into a book was a long time coming. The illustrations featured were created by her late daughter Laura, so it was an honour to work on this book and to finally bring the work of mother and daughter together.
Heritage Scrapbook – Book Design
I have just finished a small book design for a creative project. Using images from my photoshoot, inspired by the early 1900s, I mixed the design elements with pages from my maternal great-grandmother Lizzie’s autograph book, and a postcard and photography scrapbook from my paternal great-grandparents William & Hilda. Being able to look and re-use aspects of their beautiful keepsakes has been inspiring … treasures for sure!
